We are looking for a Senior Finance Business Partner to join our Energy Supply businesses in the UK. You will be managing financial performance, engaging in planning & analysis and bringing alive insight around the actual and expected results of our energy supply businesses. You'll support & guide colleagues in the business units and be actively involved in acquisitions of customer books or supply business entities as opportunities arise.

What you'll do

  • Forecast and own monthly P&L / cash / BS modelling, avoiding "surprises" and helping business unit management make trade-offs
  • Daily cashflow forecasting, collaborating with finance, treasury, procurement & credit to ensure we are making the most of our money and that it is in the right place at the right time
  • Prepare and present monthly KPIs for the business
  • Monitor actual performance vs plan, including diagnostic and action plan if needed (working together with the business)
  • Provide guidance to business management teams (forward looking and month-end review)
  • Contribute to group month end reporting packs, board packs and engage with investors
  • Work with key suppliers on arrangements that affect working capital - ad hoc analysis and deal support
  • Work collaboratively with other teams (Commercial, Marketing, Data Science, Operations, Tech, Procurement) and external partners (e.g. OFGEM)
  • Interact with the CFO regularly across a number of areas
  • Develop new features as the industry/business changes, i.e. new smart products, changes to industry regulation, integration with other business units
  • Support strategic M&A/capital structure activity within the group

What you'll need

  • Be excited about tackling the urgent issue of climate change through supporting a high-growth business leading the energy transition; you don’t have to have prior experience in energy, but a strong desire to learn about the sector today and where it’s going tomorrow is a must
  • Be analytical but capable of working with stakeholders across the business to understand the operational realities of the numbers
  • Be able to present complex information in simple ways
  • Be ready to roll up both sleeves and get stuck into complex modelling but also talk 'big picture' with senior stakeholders and key suppliers that you interact with
  • Be fast-paced in approach but understand that change in organisation requires engaging with people in different ways
  • Be curious and open minded
  • Have experience in FP&A activities and a good grasp of accounting, if not CIMA or other accounting qualification
  • Have experience in financial modelling and exceptional excel skills

Why else you'll love it here

  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
