This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the founding team of the newly formed Octopus Energy AIF Manager. OEAIFM will initially oversee c.€1-2bn of AUM through three Article 9 Lux Funds which are currently managed by portfolio manager Octopus Energy Generation* with the aim to grow the portfolio substantially over the coming years. The Funds under management have investment objectives to develop, construct and operate renewable energy assets globally as well as investing in energy transition portfolio companies on behalf of their investors.
OEAIFM is part of the fund management business within Octopus Energy group – a global integrated energy transition group that broadly operates across four verticals: Retail energy, Tech Licensing, Services and Generation. The fund management team within Octopus Energy Generation was set up in 2010 based on the belief that investors can play a vital role in helping to avert climate change and now has a 12-year track record with £5.8 billion of AUM (as of June 23).
* Octopus Energy Generation is a trading name of Octopus Renewables Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA Register No. 473797).
This role reports directly to the Head of AIFM and you will be part of a team of five in Ireland. You will work closely with the Distribution team in London.

What you'll do

  • We are seeking a Distribution Manager to be responsible for marketing and distribution oversight and processes for EU institutional investors. You will fulfil the Pre-Approval Controlled Function (PCF) 39E Distribution. You will work closely with the Distributors to understand the AIFs under management. Specific responsibilities will include the following:
  • Marketing and pre-marketing in EU member states with responsibilities of:
  • Coordinate and organise meetings with EU investors and prepare materials to present the AIF (s) investment strategy / commercial terms
  • Maintain records on potential investors and meetings held and report to the AIFM board as per the Distribution strategy.
  • Manage the data rooms for AIFs that are being pre-marketed and marketed and control access to that documentation
  • Support new product development and existing product documentation (disclosure documents, DDQs marketing decks etc)
  • Manage the subscription process, and coordinate with fund lawyers on receiving completed subscription agreements from investors
  • Maintain a register of side letters and key terms, monitor compliance and run MFN processes
  • Manage notifications to the Central Bank of Ireland, including material change notifications.
  • Ensure compliance approval of all marketing communications to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure marketing and pre-marketing meet regulatory requirements.
  • Remain across the EU regulatory environment, with a specific focus on Distribution activities and also potential impact to investors
  • Marketing in UK and non-member states:
  • Have oversight of all pre-marketing and marketing activities, through regular meetings with the Distributor. Keep records of all pre-marketing activities.
  • Filing the necessary NPPR / local notification requirements for UK and non-member state countries that are marketed to including all ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Seek compliance approval for all marketing communications to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and manage the data rooms for AIFs that are being marketed and control access to that documentation.
  • Maintain records on potential investors and meetings held
  • Support the Distribution sales activities more broadly; identify and drive areas of improvement, flag market and investor trends and contribute to true and accurate external representation, such as consultant databases.
    We are seeking someone that can create efficient processes and implement off the shelf technology solutions where appropriate to support processes. This will also include maintaining AIF records on 3rd party platforms used by investors when evaluating potential managers.

What you'll need

  • This role requires authorization from the Central Bank of Ireland to perform the Pre-Approval Controlled Function (PCF) of 39E – Distribution. The individual either needs to already maintain this approval or be able to qualify for it.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, and preferably previous experience of working in the renewables sector or infrastructure real assets.
  • Credible and effective communicator, both written & verbal, with proven industry relationships
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve client and regulatory inquiries.
